Job Description
Overview:
A qualified Architect with over 15 years relevant experience (minimum 5 years in a similar role in the GCC), the Project Director will be required to manage a portfolio of projects, as the Lead Consultant, though all stages of design. The Project Director will be required to adhere to, enforce and maintain agreed standards within the project teams and assist Senior Management to improve the overall performance of the practice. The Project Director is an active and integral member of the management structure at BSBG.
Responsibilities:
Project Management/ Lead Architecture/ Lead Consultancy
With minimal oversight, manage large scale projects through all design stages.
Work closely with Senior Management to establish and/ or understand internal resource time and cost targets - execute project deliverables in line with the same.
For a given project:
Lead and liaise with the following parties in execution of a given project:
a. Clients / Project Managers
b. Sub Consultants
c. Local Authorities and Service Providers
d. External Stakeholders / consultants as required
Establish project protocols / execution plans / procedures in line with Employer Requirements
Have a working knowledge of the Consultancy Agreement of a given project, with particular focus on:
a. Project Deliverables
b. Project Programme
c. Client protocols
d. Communication protocols
Track and report project progress via the following software utilizing company standards/ templates (high level of competency required):
a. Microsoft Project
b. Microsoft Word
c. Microsoft Excel
d. Microsoft PowerPoint
e. Adobe InDesign
f. Navisworks
g. Autodesk Revit - basic navigation skills only
Oversee the design and documentation process
Attend /chair/ minute project meetings as required within the Consultancy Agreement
Oversee submissions to Clients, Authorities and Service providers
Take responsibility for writing specifications, assisted by the Senior Architect
Take responsibility for issued information for each stage of the project
Be cognizant of project budgetary constraints - work closely with the project cost consultant to ensure designs are executed within directed parameters
Work closely with the Client and project cost consultant to develop and/ or understand the procurement strategy, and execute tender stage services as required in the Consultancy
Agreement:
Where Concept Architecture is not within the BSBG project scope, ensure executive design and documentation proceeds on the basis of preserving concept design intent
Leadership:
Decide objectives for Lead, Senior and Project Architects and track
Set and maintain acceptable efficiency levels and 'lead' by example
Adopt BSBG's leadership style - based on teamwork, co-operation and commitment
Quality:
Ensure that all staff are aware of Company's Quality Policy and Quality Objectives
Ensure that the Company Quality Management System is effectively implemented
Ensure that corrective/preventive actions are implemented effectively as required
Communication
Chair weekly Senior / Project Architect meeting to formally track project programmes
Track development of staff communication
Manage communication between Architectural design team and external consultants and stakeholders
Delegation:
Provide opportunities for all staff members to develop through delegating responsibility
Provide adequate support and an appropriate reporting structure to enable successful delegation
Motivation:
Help staff to achieve their professional ambition
Encourage staff to take responsibility
Provide opportunities for staff
General:
General performance of staff to be constantly reviewed
Review standard of drafting, letter writing and report writing
Ensure all time sheets are reviewed and signed off at end of each week
Agree staff leave and authorise through Senior Management
Track sick leave/absenteeism through administrator and report to Senior Management
Ensure timekeeping, punctuality, professionalism and appearance of staff on a daily basis
Finance:
Complete awareness of consultancy agreements with clients and sub-consultants
Detailed awareness of payment terms and invoicing
Agree invoicing strategy with finance department
Certify invoices from sub consultants
Instruct finance to invoice to clients
Expenditure:
All expenditure for equipment to be fully substantiated and presented within a proposal to Director for approval
All expenditure on consumables to be referred to Partner prior to purchase
Marketing:
Actively market the practice in all professional situations
Feedback any potential leads to Associate and ensure follow up
Appraisals and Feedback
Responsibility to appraise each team member annually
Practice Management:
Communicate ideas to enhance c-ordination and efficiency across both project and administrative functions
Ensure reference material is available for staff members as required
Ensure all staff members have the correct tools for the project
