Position: Linguist
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Linguist to join our team, with a strong preference for candidates specializing in Theoretical Linguistics. This role bridges language expertise and technical implementation to support natural language data processing and language model development.
Typical Roles and Responsibilities:
- Annotate, curate, and validate complex linguistic datasets for machine learning models.
- Analyze phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic structures across target languages.
- Collaborate with engineers and data scientists to evaluate and improve Natural Language Processing pipelines.
- Develop, maintain, and audit lexicons, grammar rules, ontologies, and evaluation benchmarks.
- Conduct root-cause error analysis on model outputs to identify linguistic discrepancies and edge cases.
- Formulate guidelines and standards for data labeling, localization, and language generation tasks.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Background in Linguistics, with Theoretical Linguistics preferred.
- Native or near-native proficiency in English.
- Native or near-native proficiency in at least one of the following target languages: Filipino/Tagalog, Cebuano, Thai, Lao, Swahili, Hebrew, or a qualifying Ethiosemitic language.
- Hands-on technical proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Practical understanding of core Natural Language Processing (NLP) concepts and workflows.
