Job Description
The Council on Southeast Asian Studies at Yale University invites applications for the position of Lector or Senior Lector I in Vietnamese. The rank of appointment will be commensurate with the selected candidate's qualifications, teaching experience, and professional expertise. The successful candidate will teach Vietnamese language courses, advise and mentor students, and work collaboratively alongside faculty in Yale's Indonesian and Filipino (Tagalog) language programs to advance Southeast Asian language education and cultural initiatives. Common roles and responsibilities for this position include:
- Delivering high-quality instruction in the Vietnamese language across various proficiency levels, from beginning to advanced.
- Designing, updating, and implementing comprehensive curricula, course syllabi, and assessment instruments aligned with contemporary pedagogical standards.
- Providing academic advising, individualized mentorship, and language-learning support to both undergraduate and graduate students.
- Collaborating with peer instructors in the Indonesian and Filipino (Tagalog) language programs to enhance pedagogical synergy across Southeast Asian studies.
- Organizing and participating in cultural programming, language tables, workshops, and community-building events sponsored by the Council on Southeast Asian Studies.
- Integrating modern instructional technologies, authentic cultural materials, and active-learning strategies into the language classroom.
- Participating in regular faculty meetings, program evaluations, committee assignments, and ongoing professional development in second-language acquisition.
