### **Position Overview**
Gabon Wood Industries is seeking an experienced, highly vigilant **Forestry Ranger** to oversee forestry and timber harvesting operations. The Ranger will be responsible for precise forest boundary demarcation, tree inventory, GPS mapping, logging inspections, and post-harvest monitoring. This role requires strong leadership capabilities to supervise field teams while ensuring strict adherence to Gabon’s forestry codes, safety protocols, and Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) guidelines.

### **Key Responsibilities**

* **Surveying & Boundary Demarcation:**
* Establish, maintain, and refresh Annual Allowable Cut (AAC) boundary lines, logging blocks, and *layonnage* tracks using GPS, clinometer, and compass.
* Conduct pre-harvest assessments to identify terrain characteristics (slopes, rivers, hills) and chart optimal log transportation/skidding routes.
* **Operational Monitoring & Quality Assurance:**
* Conduct tree inventories, parcel counting, and log verification (hammer markings, log dimensions, and authorization).
* Supervise skidding and harvesting operations to prevent log abandonment and ensure minimal residual stand damage.
* Execute post-harvest audits and decommission/secure completed operational zones and access roads.
* **Compliance & Environmental Stewardship:**
* Enforce strict compliance with Gabon forestry regulations, national labor laws, and environmental protection standards.
* Implement and monitor Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) techniques to mitigate environmental disturbance, especially near water bodies.
* **Security & Forest Protection:**
* Perform routine and ad-hoc patrols to detect and report illegal logging, trespassing, or unauthorized activities within concession limits.
* Inspect the condition of bridges, forest roads, and regional infrastructure.
* **Team Supervision & Reporting:**
* Lead and coordinate specialized field teams (inventory, tagging, logging control, post-logging, and fauna/social units).
* Process, migrate, and maintain GPS field data and mapping logs.
* Submit timely daily progress and periodic forest inventory reports to the Camp-in-Charge.

### **Qualifications & Competencies**

* **Experience:** Minimum of **5+ years** of hands-on experience in industrial logging and forestry operations.
* **Language Proficiency:** Functional/basic **French-speaking** ability is required.
* **Technical Skills:**
* High proficiency with forestry tools (GPS devices, compass, clinometer).
* Skilled in forest inventory data collection, mapping, and block division.
* Strong working knowledge of Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) frameworks and Gabon forestry/labor legislation.
