This Medical Assistant Behavioral Health (BH) position supports a healthcare organization dedicated to serving low-income families, uninsured individuals, and diverse populations, with a specific focus on the high-density Filipino and Asian communities within San Diego County. Common responsibilities of a Medical Assistant BH include:
- Assisting behavioral health providers with patient intake, taking vital signs, and documenting psychiatric histories.
- Managing patient flow and scheduling appointments within the behavioral health department.
- Coordinating care by facilitating referrals to community resources, social services, and external specialists.
- Documenting clinical information and updating electronic health records accurately and confidentially.
- Administering prescribed medications or psychiatric injections under the direct supervision of a licensed provider.
- Communicating compassionately with patients to provide supportive care and crisis de-escalation when necessary.
- Supporting administrative tasks such as answering phones, processing insurance authorizations, and managing prescription refills.
